Former Ghana international Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has thrown his support behind forward Antoine Semenyo, urging the Black Stars to build their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign around the in-form attacker as they prepare for a challenging group stage.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Croatia, England and Panama, a group widely regarded as one of the toughest in the tournament. Expectations on the Black Stars have intensified following the injury setback to Mohammed Kudus and growing concerns over the form of captain Jordan Ayew.
Badu, who earned 78 caps for Ghana, believes Semenyo’s physical strength, technical intelligence and ability to use both feet make him the ideal focal point for coach Carlos Queiroz’s side.
Speaking in an interview, Badu described Semenyo as a “poster boy” for the team’s attacking future, emphasizing that his development and tactical freedom will be crucial to Ghana’s success.
“He has been with a great coach, and he has been given ample time to do whatever he wants on the pitch,” Badu said. “That’s why we have to use him. He needs space so he can progress the ball very well because he is good with both legs. He is strong on the ball and very intelligent.”
Badu further stressed that Semenyo should not be burdened with excessive pressure, insisting the forward should be allowed to play freely and express himself on the international stage.
“For now, we will rely on him without any pressure. He should come and enjoy his football and help us qualify from the group without pressure,” he added.
Ghana will open their World Cup 2026 campaign against Panama in Toronto on June 17, before facing England at Gillette Stadium on June 23.
