Ghana’s U-20 national male football team, the Black Satellites, ramped up training on Wednesday at the University of Ghana Stadium Annex B as preparations continue ahead of the upcoming WAFU B U-20 Championship in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.

Head coach Maxwell Konadu oversaw an intense tactical session focused on sharpening squad combinations and physical conditioning as the technical team prepares to finalize the roster for the regional tournament.

The Black Satellites face a demanding group stage, drawn in Group B alongside regional rivals Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Togo:

  • Nigeria vs. Ghana: Monday, July 27, at the Lycée Scientifique Stadium in Yamoussoukro (14:00 GMT).
  • Ghana vs. Burkina Faso: Thursday, July 30, at the Lycée Scientifique Stadium (18:00 GMT).
  • Togo vs. Ghana: Sunday, August 2, at the Stade CKB (14:00 GMT).

The regional championship gathers the seven member nations of WAFU Zone B to compete for regional supremacy. The tournament also serves as the qualifying pathway for the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, which Ghana will host.

To evaluate the squad before departure, the Black Satellites play Division One League side Koforidua Semper Fi in a friendly match on Thursday, July 23, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Coach Konadu and his technical team expect the friendly match to provide a final competitive test before naming the traveling squad for Côte d’Ivoire.
