A group calling itself Concerned Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) USA branch has rejected claims that members have opposed newly revised internal election guidelines, describing the allegations as “false and malicious.”
In a rejoinder issued on Tuesday (15 April), the group dismissed publications by a member of the NPP-USA Massachusetts chapter, Theophilus Nkansah, which suggested widespread discontent within the branch and accused the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, of disenfranchising over 600 members.
No official meeting
The group said no official meeting or platform had been held for NPP-USA members to deliberate on the guidelines, making claims of a collective rejection inaccurate.
“There has been no platform by NPP-USA or a meeting of members where such a position was adopted,” the statement said, adding that the claims were intended to create division within the party’s external branch.
Responding to allegations that the General Secretary had unilaterally imposed the guidelines, the group said the rules were approved by the party’s National Executive Committee in line with its constitution, and only communicated by the General Secretary.
“The General Secretary does not dictate election guidelines,” the statement said. “They are adopted through established structures to ensure fairness, transparency and equity across all branches.”
Caution
The group also rejected claims that party dues collected from members had been mismanaged, stating that NPP-USA operates its own financial system independent of the party’s national leadership.
It warned that such allegations, if left unaddressed, risk deepening divisions within the external branch and undermining party cohesion ahead of internal processes.
The group called on NPP-USA leadership to publicly condemn the remarks and reassure members, stressing that “disparaging and repugnant comments have no place” within the party.
The New Patriotic Party has not yet publicly responded to the dispute, which highlights growing tensions within its diaspora branches.
