Matchday 9 of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League wrapped up with drama, surprise results and a derby victory that has shifted the early-season narrative.

The action began on Friday at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, where Nations FC were held to a 1-1 draw by Hohoe United.

The visitors silenced the home supporters in the 23rd minute through Ati Sena, who pounced on a rare opening to grab the lead. Emmanuel Annor struck the equaliser to ease the tension in Abrankese.

Aduana FC and Medeama SC played out a cagey stalemate on Saturday, with neither side able to find a breakthrough.

In Tema, Vision FC delivered one of the standout performances of the weekend, beating Eleven Wonders 2-1 despite finishing the game with 10 men.

Mathew Amponsah gave Wonders an early lead inside two minutes after capitalising on poor defending, but Vision responded almost immediately. Emmanuel Sanja restored parity in the seventh minute after a neat build-up.

The hosts were reduced to 10 men in the 28th minute when Kingsley Appiah received his marching orders, yet coach Nana Agyemang’s team held firm. Their determination paid off on the hour mark when Meshack Sowah Adjetey sealed an impressive comeback.

Sunday’s headline fixture in Accra saw Asante Kotoko end Hearts of Oak’s unbeaten start to the season with a 1-0 derby win.

Morifing Donzo converted a penalty on the stroke of half-time to hand the Porcupine Warriors a vital victory and preserve their own unbeaten run.

At the Wenchi Sports Stadium, Young Apostles produced a spirited 3-2 win over Bechem United. Augustine Okrah opened the scoring for the visitors, but Issah Huseine levelled before the break.

The hosts took the lead through Issah Nyaabila early in the second half, only for Boa-At Regain to equalise for Bechem.

Vincent Mobilla struck five minutes from time to clinch the points for Young Apostles.

FC Samartex edged Swedru All Blacks 1-0 at DUN’s Park, with Emmanuel Mamah converting from the spot on the stroke of half-time.

Basake Holy Stars also impressed, handing defending champions Bibiani GoldStars a 2-0 defeat in one of the weekend’s shock results.

Heart of Lions continued their strong run at home, leaving it late to beat Berekum Chelsea 1-0 in Kpando. Paul Atta Agyei struck in the 89th minute to seal the win.

In Tamale, Karela United were held to a 1-1 draw by Dreams FC after Seidu Suraj cancelled out Malik Abubakar’s fifth-minute opener just after the interval.

After nine rounds of matches, Aduana FC, Medeama SC, Heart of Lions and Hearts of Oak occupy the top four positions. At the opposite end, Bechem United, Basake Holy Stars and Eleven Wonders find themselves in the relegation places.
