Dennis “Miracles” Aboagye has dismissed the narrative put out by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) regarding his arrest, stating that investigators did not question him about any GH¢55 million during his interrogation.
Aboagye, the former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD) and current aide to NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, made the remarks following his release from state custody on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
“For the records: There was no discussion of any GH¢55 million with me by EOCO. None!!!” Aboagye stated. He characterized the agency’s statements as a false narrative and linked the timing of his arrest to his recent announcement to contest for the position of National Communications Director within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Aboagye was released after meeting a GH¢50 million bail condition, which required three sureties, two of whom had to be justified. His lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, had criticized the bail conditions as excessive, but the legal team successfully processed the paperwork to secure his release.
EOCO maintains that Aboagye’s weekend arrest by the Ghana Immigration Service at Kotoka International Airport was based on an active “Stop Order.” The agency stated that Aboagye left the country while aware of an ongoing probe into alleged procurement irregularities, theft, misapplication of funds, and money laundering at the IMCCoD Secretariat between August 2022 and February 2025.
According to investigators, the inquiry was initiated following a forensic audit requested by the current leadership of the IMCCoD. The case also involves former IMCCoD Accountant Gerald Appiah. EOCO stated that while Appiah has begun refunding a portion of the funds, the recoveries do not absolve any suspect of criminal liability.
