The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has attributed widespread electricity interruptions across the country to a major power system disturbance on the National Interconnected Transmission System during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

According to an official press statement issued by the power transmitter, the disturbance occurred at approximately 3:11 a.m. and triggered the simultaneous tripping of several generating units across the national grid.

The company indicated that system operators and technical engineers have initiated established emergency restoration protocols to stabilize the grid and restore supply to affected areas in collaboration with key power sector partners.

GRIDCo added that a comprehensive technical investigation is currently underway to identify the root cause of the system failure, while reassuring the public that restoration work remains ongoing to bring all generating plants back online safely.
