Wild celebrations broke out at the headquarters of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Monday evening following the release of prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, from state detention.
The former campaign spokesperson for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was freed after his legal team successfully met the stringent bail conditions set by the state investigative body.
Hundreds of ecstatic party loyalists, who had camped at the EOCO premises in a high-stakes standoff with security forces throughout the day, erupted into singing and dancing the moment Mr. Aboagye stepped out of the office walls. The jubilant crowd carried the popular political strategist high on their shoulders, turning the tense security zone into a massive victory rally.
Speaking to journalists shortly after securing his freedom, a defiant Miracles Aboagye expressed deep gratitude to the NPP national leadership, his legal team, and the teeming grassroots supporters who stood by him during his brief detention. He maintained his innocence against the unspecified allegations that led to his dramatic arrest at the Kotoka International Airport on Sunday night, labeling the entire ordeal as a politically motivated attempt to break his resolve.
The legal team, led by private legal practitioner Gary Nimako, confirmed that they are prepared to defend their client against any formal charges the state might prefer in the future. Meanwhile, the successful execution of the bail has significantly cooled the brewing security tensions in the capital, although party leadership insists that their struggle against the systematic harassment of opposition voices remains far from over.
